You may not know it, but car batteries have recharging capabilities that kick in once driven. Your battery runs the risk of getting drained out if unused.

Maintain Your Tires As Well

The front tires of cars, especially on front-wheel drive cars, wear out more quickly than rear tires. One way you could even out the wear on your tires is to rotate them. This is because the weight that a car carries can also impact the rate at which tires deteriorate. Rotating tires simply means to put the rear tires up front and send the front tires to the back. By the time you reach your next 10,000th mile, make sure you’ve rotated tires by then. A big part of driving safely depends on the quality and maintenance of your tires.

Tips For Preserving Your Car In The Winter

Once the wind in the air becomes nippier than usual, it’s time for you to get your car ready for the all-important winter months. Ask your repair shop about several things – the brakes, the antifreeze, the wipers, and your tires – be proactive even if they have their checklists.

It is an obvious warning sign when someone driving sees build-ups of snow and ice on normally clear roads. However, in the months just before and after the mid-winter blast, light rain showers can coat the roads with black ice that is difficult to see and extremely slick. Prime your tires and brakes for these crucial months, and do so while still early.

When visiting your local repair shop, have them do a quick check on your antifreeze. Antifreeze, strange as it may sound, is a coolant. But this coolant would help lower your car’s freezing point and increase its boiling point. Basically, this is a defense mechanism for your car to prevent certain parts of the engine freezing or burning due to the extreme weather conditions. The last thing you need to consider, and one that should not be underrated, is to change your windshield wiper blades if you need to. We dare you to try driving in a snowstorm without these all-important wipers. It is difficult to see. But we probably won’t, because you won’t be able to see, and will most likely be more prone to accidents. Car maintenance is important overall, but even more so in the winter.
