Why will my car battery not charge!!?

Question:

My battery was replaced 10 months ago. It has been sitting so I tried to jump start it several times but the battery remains flat as soon as I shut the car off. Any ideas?

Answer:

Clean your battery terminals and clamps very well.

When the headlamp switch is on and the lights
dim slowly when the key is switched to start, the battery is dead and needs to be charged and tested at a parts store.

If the headlights flicker, the terminals are not connected well.

If the headlights do not change, the starter or its circuit is bad.

A good battery which won’t hold charge indicates a bad alternator or loose drive-belt.
